Fluffy Clouds

Sillouette part deux
Took a trip with the missus to Ilkley, a small town on the cusp of the Yorkshire Dales. Like many of the towns in Yorkshire it's built on a hill and has great victorian architecture. We strolled around for a while and picked up some treats from Betty's Tea room est. 1919. I wonder if the docs in the pictuer from yesterday used to frequent Betty's? I took this picture on The Grove in Ilkley.

Old Skool boys

Blog from the road peeps.
The past met the present today. These were doctors from the hospital where I currently reside. The picture marks a centenary event held in 1924. Before my grandparents were thought of! A lot has changed in the world since then. I wonder if they ever thought a man like me would be in a place like this? When opportunity knocks... Don't be afraid to Answer the door Peeps, ya digg?

My Princess Gone, Far Far Away.........

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QEXF_VSI9U - Tells the story of a young man and his struggle with the fact that the girl he loves has now left him....I empathize with his story as the same thing has just happened to me, shock, horror.... Thankfully there is a silver lining. I'm expecting Carla back in a couple of days. Phew! Its the longest break away from each other we've had since we've been married. Sad times. Roll on Friday...........

P.S I wonder if I should hide the other slipper?

Many Men

Got to mess around with Photoshop for the first time this year. I don't plan to do this much throughout the 365 project. I do however like the artistic license it gives you to present your work. Pretty pricey for the application though!

Can you deal with 3 Burtons?

Light......in the middle of the tunnel!

So I throughly enjoyed my day at work today. Hard work, great patients and staff, good fun and I didn't get paid. Yep thats right (technically) - go figure. Today was my off day so I volunteered to work at my local hospital in the Ophthalmology department. Definitely had fun. Today cemented my desire to be a surgeon. I'm someway off this desire (hence the light in the middle of the tunnel) but its always nice to have a pick me up now and then. Inspirational days are really something huh? Lets work people!

Shock Factor

Mom popped round for the first time this year. She was greeted by the paparazzi a.k.a my Olympus E-40. Shock horror number one. Shock number two SWFC go down 4-0 to Leyton Orient. Leyton who I hear you say. Yes me too. I consider myself a football fan but i find it very difficult to name one of their players!

Short blog as pizza has just been delivered.........

Bleep free & patient free

Night shifts finally done for a couple of weeks. I get to put down the stethoscope for a few days.

Bleep free bliss following a busy week at work. The sun has shone for the past 3 days - an unusual treat for us in the UK - however i've missed the majority of it. Sad times!

I had a Full English breakfast this morning with the missus at our local hotel. Very nice treat indeed.

What to do for the next couple of days off? Decisions, decisions.......

Cast a shadow

Casting shadow
3 down, just the 1 night shift to go.

Nice bright start to the day.......but I wont see the light of day. Catch up sleep is on the menu, but not before the pic of the day.

Im back up just before sunset. Enough time to grab some grub(food) and watch the start of The Expendables. High octane action to ignite the brain cells before the night shift begins ...........

The long drive home

Interesting, steady night shift at Harrogate Hospital turned to morning, and the drive home.

I'm impatient when it comes to waiting in lines of traffic. I mean come on where are other people going, cant they see that I need to get home to recover for another nights onslaught. Don't other drivers know that I have better things to do that sit in traffic all morning. As a matter of fact I bet half the drivers out there cant drive and are holding me up because they have nothing better to do!

On a more serious note I wonder why it takes so long for road works to be completed. Or why they shut down both lanes of traffic but only work on one lane at a time. Journeying down the M1 the other day I was reminded of the slow long delays we face. I mean road works until Autumn 2012 - Get real!!. If i were in Dubai I'd blink and miss the road works - Those guys are quick!

Silhouette sign

Love watching the sunset, but hate to see the sun go down.

Trying to relax all day before a week of nights - Gym, Replay of the Pittsburgh Steelers triumph, watching the world go by on the balcony with a drink in hand (Non-alcoholic beverage).

Not looking forward to the old circadian rhythm going out of sync. Just call me Mr Vampire.

Thought of the day:-

Are feet a turn on or a turn off?

I have quite flat but strong feet. I think my foot game could be a whole lot tighter but i just don't have the time to invest. I like to wear sandles, with the open toes!

Should a man get a pedicure? Discuss

On the throne

So where do you spend your best moments in life thinking? In the car on the way to work. On the daily commute home by bus or train. Running at the gym or on the street. I spend mine on the bog! Too much info? Anyhow.......

Train-ing Day

Stand still or make a move, you decide! A view from the pad
Today was my PDP (Personal development programme) day in Leeds, which meant a nice lie-in followed by a stroll (in the car) to work - I left it far too late for the planned walk in to St James. I know I know, such the epitome of laziness! (For those that don't know I live about 2 miles from St James.

I met with with some friends from Sheffield (currently working in Leeds) most notably Mikey C, my brother from a different mother, Mo and Faye.

Today was a fascinating day centering on the medico legal aspect of being a doctor.......

PDP also meant that I got home at an earlier time than normal. Indeed its still light outside. Makes a change to setting off and getting back in the dark. Oh how I miss the light. Without wishing away time....roll on Summer!

Off out for a meal with the missus later, where to?

My weapon of choice

The digital SLR camera is mightier than the sword. Life imitates art. Picture perfect moments set against the   melody of time. Life may go one but images are timeless.

My two greatest past times in life are undoubtedly listening to music (right now as i type this im listening to Nothing to Worry about by Buscemi feat Isabelle Antena - google it) and photography. Every vacation the camera comes out - much to the annoyance of Carla. I swear if I could have gotten away with it I'd have been the official photographer at our wedding. Alas I wasn't granted that privilege!

Read an interesting article the other day that claims, listening to music releases happy hormones (endorphins). Without citing the literature I can most definitely vouch for this one. But at the same time you have a song for every emotion. Just think about it for a second. What's your.......
..........Fight Music!
..........Work out music!
...........Party Music!
...........Sing-a-long song!
..........Baby making music!

Whats your track??

Tunnel Vision

We all have are own ways of traversing a problem, whether introspectively or outwardly seeking the opinions of friends.

This long weekend has taught me that too much focus can be a bad thing. Over scrutiny and over thinking can be counter productive. What's that saying, a little of everything is good but too much can be dangerous.

With any situation that life throws our way there is a beginning (the start of the tunnel), a middle (the tunnel itself) and an end (the light at the end of the tunnel). This picture therefore is a mantra for life

I fooled around with some of the exposure settings for the pastel effect on the rail

As always

Friends (part 1)

Wednesday won so I took a trip down the M62 to Manchester for bday celebrations, good friends and karaoke. Chinese karoke bar is the one despite the tight security. I toned down the celebrations by singing some coldplay - Yellow, much to the annoyance of the crowd who felt it was too depressing. Coldplay - depressing - never!
First blog on the road.

And on the seventh day God said let there be snow..........

......and you know what, there was snow!

Without a doubt one of the most crazy ends to 2010 surrounded the whole weather situation. Disruption, chaos, tears, heartache, delays, expeditions (@ Charlesworth) all down to the fluffy white stuff.

Hated by adults, loved by children, who knew that the delicate glory could result in so much drama.

I personally loved the snow up until it interfered with working life. Outside of work, let it SNOW, let it SNOW, let it SNOW!

It is funny how everything stands still when it snows here in the UK when compared to other countries e.g. Canada.

On a lighter note

Bad day at the office!

But on a lighter note i've learnt that SWFC's Milan Mandaric aims to bring 6, yes thats right 6 new players to the club in the January transfer window.

Oh and I have a four day weekend to look forward to.

The troubles of today can be put on hold for a little while......

Politically correct angel?

The Mess christmas tree came down today, but before doing so created a little excitement. In the spirit of political correctness the angels ethnicity was brought into question. Is it right to have a white angel? Indeed, playing devils advokat why was the angel not brown, black or even yellow?

In the last act in season of good will,  a hijab was placed on said angel! As a group we felt that this fairly represented a more political correct if not strangely questionable view.

Thoughts?

Enjoy?

V.A.T - Very Annoying Tax

So today, Britain and I woke up to the new age of an increase in VAT (Value Added Tax).

For my non UK friends and family who aren't privy to the extortionate fees we pay here in England, our tax on sales of goods has gone from 17.5% to a whopping 20%! Absolutely ridiculous right? My first purchase in what I like to call the the robbing era was for petrol. I had the grand idea of standing on the roof of my car and in Martin Luther King style protest "I have a dream, that one day, petrol stations across the country, will cease to bend over the consumer.........!" you get the picture. However it was far too cold and I wasn't wearing my winter gloves and scarf.

I then came up with the quite ingenious idea of imitating Rosa Parks, having a sit in protest in the back of my car. But then passers by might have just wondered what the heck was going on. Instead I went for option C - The British way of thinking. Nod, smile, pay the cashier and forget the fact that we are to be all exploited financially for the next 3 years at least!

Anyhow enjoy the picture!

Much Love and happy spending

Rhetorical Reflections?

'You don't know what you've got till its gone!' and 'In hindsight..........' are well known quotes for reflections in life.

Today I chose to reflect How!

How fortunate I am to have a beautiful wife, family and friends?

How fortunate I am to  be practicing a dream in medicine?

And how am I gonna keep this blog refreshing, new, edgy, quirky, funny and brilliant for a whole entire year!? Another 362 days...really!

OK so the last one isn't so much a reflection, and in the grand scheme of things is not as important as the former questions. I think i'll just blog when the time feels right. Fret not! Pictures will get taken!

Lifes a ball. A big Shiny ball!

So the christmas tree came down today, at the request of Mrs Burton. I'd have kept it up all year long, but I guess that would have meant having to constantly provide presents all year long!

Today was chilled, So I was able to have fun with the camera. Cooked up a treat for Mrs Burton in the Kitchen. Soup for starters, Chicken wings and rice* White rice as i'd run out of coconut milk

Anyways Enjoy the pic

Pretty in Grey?

New Year Eve 2011 will be remembered for great company - the wife, good food @ Fazenda rodizo and funk music at the skylounge - Mint Hotel formerly the City inn, Leeds. What better way to bring in the new year than to jam to James Brown!

Back at the apartment the party continued. The king of swarve definitely did his thing tonight.....

And so it begins

1st day of the long awaited project 365 - reflections on life in 2011.

I'm not a blogger. Never have blogged. Didn't ever think I would blog. But I have always loved taking photos. I also like sharing, so combining the two......leads me to blog

So what will I post?

Pictures from life events during 2011. Pictures from home. Pictures from work. Pictures from travel.

Sit tight, enjoy and most importantly don't expect much.

Much love

D
